My name is Emilio Gonzalez. I was born in The Dominican Republic. My father was a music teacher for 40 years back in The Dominican Republic. I grew up watching him teach at the local music academy. My love for music started when I was about 5 years old. A few years later I realized that I wanted to be a music teacher, just like my father. I moved to New York in 1973. A week after I got there I started playing the bass with my father’s band along with three other brothers that were already in New York. I also lived in New Jersey and Florida before coming to Arizona in 1987. Two years later I formed a Latin Band and have played in the Phoenix area with my band as well as with other groups. I met my wife here in Arizona and got married in 1995. I  had the opportunity to attend ASU with a scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in music education and later got a Mater’s certificate in arranging from Berklee College of Music. I taught at Herrera School for the Fine Arts in the Phoenix Elementary School District and Douglas High School in Douglas, AZ. before coming to Laveen Elementary School District. I have been teaching band at M.C. Cash since 2011. I Also thought General music at other schools in the district while teaching band at Cash. For the last seven years, I have been teaching band at M.C.Cash and Rogers Ranch.
