Classroom Updates

May Updates and Dates to Know!

We are nearing the end of this school year and have a few things that are coming up. Please read the email completely so you are aware of important dates.

On Monday, May 11th We will be in our classroom from 9-11am, so you can come in if you have anything in the classroom that you may want to pick up. We know a few kids had extra clothes in the classroom. We will try and inform those parents directly before the 11th. Pictures will also be available that day. So, if you ordered pictures you will be able to pick them up. If you choose not to pick up your items they will be recycled (student work) or donated to the nurse (extra clothes/jackets). That does not include your pictures. If you are unable to come in on that day we have been informed that they will be scheduling another day/time. There is not much for you to pick up that is essential, but they do have some writing assignments and maybe a few other things. If you have been sick, or if anyone in your household has been sick, please let us know and we will find an alternative way for you to get your items from the classroom. We are doing this by certain classes/grade levels each day. However, if you have a child in another grade level, there will be staff available to help you pick up their stuff on May 11th as well. This way, you don’t need to come in twice.

Chromebooks: Families who checked out a chromebook need to return them after May 18th, no later than May 20th.

**May 18th will be our official last day of online learning. We will be having a virtual celebration that morning from 10-10:30am. We are going to try and do a few fun things with the kids. This will be a way for them to say goodbye before the summer.

We will send this information out again before the dates that we mentioned above. We hope that this gives you plenty of time to make arrangements if possible to be a part of any of the activities that may be happening.
Please let us know if there is anything you need. We have almost made it through this and everyone has been doing a great job. We are very proud of our students and we thank you, parents, for keeping them involved.

Google Classroom Reminders and Suggestions

Hello families!

I wanted to reach out to give some suggestions regarding Google Classroom. Everyone has been doing great, but I hope these are helpful (I am a visual learner). Here we go!
Reminder 1: If you need/want to attach work before turning in an assignment, you push the white “Add or create” button and then attach the work. See below:
image.png
Reminder 2: Once an assignment is completed, be sure to mark that it has been completed by clicking the purple “Mark as done” button. This tells us that the assignment has been completed, and once we see this, we can go check the work. What does this button look like? See below:
image.png
**Oops! I turned in the assignment already, but I have work that I forgot to attach! Is it too late to attach it?
**Not at all! Just click “Unsubmit” and this will take you back to the original screen that says “Mark as done” and “Add or create” and then you can attach the work and resubmit.

Suggestion #1: Many of you have been commenting “done” or “complete” on assignments after they have been completed. Remember that once you have clicked “Mark as done,” we can see on our end that it has been submitted. :] If you have a comment/question about the assignment that you don’t want everyone to see, feel free to leave a private comment.
Suggestion #2:  Please reach out to us and let us know if there are other ways we can support you. If we notice that your child is not logging in, we will reach out to you, and  check in. We care deeply about your children and their success, and we not only want them to continue learning, but we do not want them to lose what they worked so hard to gain. So please let us know if we need to accommodate so that we can support your children.
We thank you so much for your continued support and hope that these reminders and suggestions help you.

Updates- 4/15

Hello families,

We are so happy because we got to do something brand new this morning- talk to your children on Google Meets! It was such a blast and we really enjoyed it. It was great to get to see our friends and hear how they are doing. It did last for about an hour, and that is probably never going to happen again. We will try to make them no more than half an hour in the future. We were kind of working out the bugs and establishing procedures this morning, such as teaching how to mute/unmute, what to do when you have a question, etc. The next couple times we meet may be similar, because there will most likely be more students and some who did not get to participate today. Therefore, we will have to teach them the procedures as well. That is why I said that it will “probably” never happen again. :] After a couple more times, we should be good to go and we will use it for building social/emotional intelligence/skills (as we did during community circle when we were still in school!), to give mini lessons, and practice Spanish and English skills!
We do realize that we only gave you a couple days’ notice, but now, we are going to have a set schedule. It will be consistent each week, so you can mark your calendars! Starting next week, we will be meeting twice a week, every week. Here are the times:
Every Monday at 4:00pm.
Every Wednesday at 10:00am.

We chose two time slots because we realize not everyone is able to meet in the morning. Hopefully, one of these times will work for you. If you want to have your child participate both times, that is completely fine, too! We will do the same thing as we did today, which is share the Google Meets link about five minutes before we meet.
Please note that there are some guidelines that you need to take a look at before participating. I am attaching them to this email so you can read it over. We have also posted the guidelines in our Google Classroom if you want to read them there. **One guideline that it does not say but is very important is that parents/guardians are present. You do not need to be in front of the camera, but you should be within sight and sound of your child. This way, if your child needs help with anything, you can be there to help him or her right away.
Thank you again to all who participated today, and we hope to see you on Monday at 4pm and/or Wednesday at 10am!

Updates- Thursday, 4/9

We are almost at the end of the second week since we transitioned into one lesson a day, bell work, and extra practice activities. How is everyone feeling about this? We would like to hear from you please remember that we are just an email (or scheduled phone call away).

Changes to Food Services: (Please see flyer)
Capture
School Pictures and Yearbooks:

We will be receiving both school pictures and yearbooks when companies are able to ship them. Neither company is considered essential therefore, they are not working right now. They have been in touch with us and assured us once restrictions are lifted both pictures and yearbooks will be delivered. We know that pictures are important to you and will update you as soon as we know more.

Updates- Friday, 4/3

Thank you for all of your participation so far this week! We appreciate your efforts and absolutely enjoy seeing our students working hard. We have received emails, google classroom attachments, and looked in Nearpod. It is so fun to see so many of you being creative with your assignments. Again, thank you for your patience as we all continue to learn together.
Remember that we are going to be posting our daily bell work responses on Flipgrid now. The link will be included in the assignment just as it was for the Padlet. Many of our students have already posted and discovered the fun stickers/filters of Flipgrid (sooo cute!) If you have any questions about this transition please let us know.
INTENT TO RETURN TO PASEO POINTE 2020-2021:
Will you all please respond to me regarding your intent for the 2020-2021 school year. I know some of you have turned in forms, but we are trying to finish gathering this information. Email me at khenry@laveeneld.org and let me know!
“Yes my child will be returning to Paseo Pointe.”
“No my child will not be returning to Paseo Pointe”
Spanish Practice/Resources:
* Have you checked out our symbaloo page under “One Stop For Resources”
There are many websites that your child can access for extra practice. I also created a Spanish tab which includes some Spanish Videos.
* Watch cartoons/movies in Spanish
*Listen to kid friendly music in Spanish (I suggest some of the videos I’ve shared in Symbaloo or songs from this site-  Rockalingua)
* Rosetta Stone (Currently offering 3 free months)-  Sign up here!

Update- 3/31

We hope that you are staying safe and doing well! This is a difficult post to type out as a teacher because our hopes were high on returning to school to close off the year with our students. The district sent out a letter yesterday with more information on this. We are heartbroken to know that we won’t be able to return to our classrooms. We appreciate all of you and your dedication. Please know that we are here to continue to support you and your child at home to the best of our abilities. Throughout the weeks we will continue to focus on academics and maintain our classroom community.

Message from Mrs. Pashley:
Most Distance Learning Participation: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 will be recognized on the marquee and possibly other awards/recognitions.
