About Ms. Henry

Hi! My name is Kristen Henry. I am in my seventh year of teaching. I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ and graduated from Mountain Pointe High School in 2007. I moved with my family to the small town of Taylor, AZ in 2008. During my time in Taylor, I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from NAU while I worked first at a preschool, and then as an instructional aide at a tiny charter school in Show Low. All throughout that time, I learned a lot about how children learn and was able to do some teaching at the charter school while applying what I was learning in college. This really helped prepare me for my student teaching experience and my career.

Once I received my Bachelor’s, I taught first grade for three years at another school in Snowflake. During that time, I received my Master’s in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University online. In addition, I obtained an Early Childhood Endorsement as well as a Reading Specialist Endorsement. After spending eight years in Taylor with my family, I decided I liked the heat better than the cold and moved back to the valley in May of 2016. I began teaching kindergarten here at Paseo Pointe in August of 2016. This is my fourth year teaching kindergarten here and I love it! Teaching is such a fun, exciting, and rewarding job, and I cannot imagine doing anything else. Teaching children to read is my passion and the process is both challenging and beautiful. I believe it is imperative to continue to grow and learn more as an educator because there are so many ideas and strategies out there. For this reason, I am currently working toward receiving my National Board Certification. Teaching and learning definitely keep me busy, but in my spare time, I enjoy walking, driving, playing with my cats, spending time with friends, and bowling.
