Good Evening Parents,

Thanks to those that have been checking homework and signing agendas each night! We appreciate you holding the students accountable.

Today was picture day.  If you would still like to order pictures you can do so on the LifeTouch website, or on the order form that was sent home with the students today.  Please send them with their order forms and money by September 11th if ordering a picture at school, otherwise feel free to order online at mylifetouch.com with the ID: SR268157Q0

Tuesday, 9/11 is Curriculum Night!  There will be two sessions:  5:00-5:40, and 5:45-6:30.  This will allow you to visit more than one grade level at the event.  We hope you will join us for a session to gain more insight on the 5th grade curriculum, expectations, homework procedures, and much more!

The Box Tops Competition has started!! Box tops help us earn money for our school, so the more collected, the better!  Send them our way when you have a bunch!!!

More info regarding our fundraiser for PTA will be attached in the PDF below!

From Mr. Bender:

Scholastic book orders have been extended to next Wednesday, September 19th for Mr. Bender’s homeroom class! See the email sent on that for more details.

Ms. Wolff’s homeroom class, book orders are due on Friday September 14th.

SCIENCE: We have been learning about the Skeletal and Muscular Systems.  The Skeletal Quiz will be on Tuesday and the Muscular Quiz in the near future.  Keep quizzing them on those bones!

From Ms. Wolff:

Math:  This week we are continuing to work on chapter 5.  We just finished up adding decimals (5.NBT.7) and took a quiz today.  Tomorrow we will begin subtracting decimals, and take a quiz on that standard Friday.

Social Studies: We have been diving into our online curriculum, Discovery Education, to learn more about exploration of North America and its colonization.

From Mr. Pitts: Students reviewed the recorder procedures and technique of playing recorder. We are going to spend the next couple of classes catching them up to where we left off last year in recorder before learning new material. Students will be working on earning their recorder “belts” similarly to how you earn belts in karate.

The Panther P.A.C.T.:

Here at Trailside we follow the Panther P.A.C.T.  The P.A.C.T. stands for Personal best, Accountable, Critical thinker, and Tolerant.  It is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.

Personal Best:  Personal best means putting forth 100% effort into work and home responsibilities.

Accountable: Accountable means being responsible and accomplishing tasks.  If you say you are going to do it, you do it in the time allocated.

Critical Thinker: Critical Thinker means being a problem solver and making every effort to independently find appropriate solutions to problems that come up.

Tolerance: Tolerance means being patient, accepting, and understanding of others and their situations.  Put yourself in other person’s shoes.

How to use the P.A.C.T. at home:

It is beneficial to have common language between home and school to reinforce positive behaviors in all aspects of the student’s life.

Examples and importance of using the P.A.C.T.

Personal Best: “I can see you have done your personal best by helping wash the dishes.”

Accountable: “I can see you were being accountable by completing your homework.”

Critical Thinker: “I am proud of you for being a critical thinker when determining which items were garbage, and which were recyclable.”

Tolerant: “Great job being tolerant of your siblings when they were trying to finish their homework.”

Students can spend panther bucks that they earn throughout the week at the panther store.  Items for purchase are pizza with the principals, week of dress down, help a teacher pass, among other examples.  The panther store will be open to students on Wednesdays and Fridays.
