Teacher Bio

Hello!

My name is Natalie (Schulz) Urick. I recently got married over the summer of 2016, so I am still trying to adjust to my new name 🙂

I am from Detroit, Michigan. I am a proud graduate from Saginaw Valley State University, where I earned my B.A. in Education. During my college experience, I spent a semester studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. I graduated in 2009 and continued substitute teaching, grade levels K-12, for about a year and a half.

In 2011 I made the move to Arizona and accepted the job offer with the Laveen District. When I started, I was in a self-contained 5th grade classroom and taught all subjects. For the 2012 school year, I decided to loop with my first 5th grade class. I continued to teach in a self-contained/all subject classroom in 6th grade. In the 2015 school year, we switched to a more “middle school” schedule and began to rotate subjects and teachers. As a departmentalized 6th grade, I was responsible for teaching the English Language Arts Curriculum (Reading and Writing). Last year was my 6th year at Vista, and it was my 5th year teaching 6th grade. This is currently my 7th year teaching at Vista, and I am so excited that I have the opportunity to teach 7th grade to the same group of wonderful students as I had last year.

žI believe one of the most necessary skills in becoming a successful classroom teacher is passion. I have and always have possessed a strong passion for learning, teaching and helping others. I believe with passion comes enthusiasm. With the combination of a strong passion and an encouraging enthusiasm, it is my hope that the joy for both teaching and learning will be contagious in my classroom.
